Affectionately named ‘Clara’ for sale is my 1954 Riley RME 1500cc presented in maroon over white with a black vinyl roof and white wall tyres. Complete with its valuable original Registration No. SKA465 which is transferable and the V5C registered in my name. (‘SKA’ refers to the type of music by such 1970’s bands as Madness & The Specials).
Inside the Riley is a charming and nicely patinated original specification, red interior with leather seats can be found and with a stunning wooden dashboard adorned with Jaeger dials and instruments.
Treated to a ‘Body off’ - ‘Chassis Up’ restoration in the early 2000s, with photo evidence in the file. It has held up well since then, showing no obvious signs of serious corrosion on the body or chassis, only a few slight paint imperfections. The transmission is optioned with Laycock ‘J Type’ overdrive, making the Riley much more usable on UK roads and a Delaney Gallay heater fitted to the interior.
The car is converted to use flasher indicators rather than the original ‘semaphore’ arms, (these remain but are now disconnected). There is also an Electric cooling fan upgrade fitted externally to the front of the radiator and a 12v dash socket fitted to enable connection of accessories like a Sat Nav’ or phone. The charging system is upgraded with the fitment of an alternator. A ‘period push’ button radio is fitted.
The Riley is a smartly presented example that has received much admiration when out and about and is ready for next year’s show season. A huge amount of money has been spent in the last 20 years alone, which is backed up by a vast array of invoices. Supplied with a large history file including V5C, original green logbook, maintenance invoices, previous MOT certificates and workshop manuals.
